Once the endless days of warm weather and sunshine return, you’ll likely find Maria Grimsley exactly where she loves to be: among the wildflowers.

Maria is the founder of The Glimmer Patch, a plot of land on a farm in Hart County where she grows an abundant variety of flowers.

Why? To uplift both herself and others.

“The Glimmer Patch holds a special place in my heart,” Maria said. “These beautiful flowers represent my little moments of joy.”

Last year, The Glimmer Patch was just establishing its roots. But for the 2025 season, Maria is excited about her upcoming plans, which includes selling fresh-cut organic flowers locally, hosting events, and sharing beautiful blooms with others from county to county.

Maria also has plans to take The Glimmer Patch on the road.

“It brings me joy to think about brightening people’s days,” she explained. “I’m committed to visiting the nursing care facilities in Glasgow and Hart once a month, starting in late spring or early summer. I believe these visits will create meaningful connections and bring warmth to the residents with each arrangement they make.”

Maria’s focus goes beyond blessing others with bouquets of happiness. The Glasgow, Ky., native is also working to establish followers via her audio journal on Facebook, The Aud Journal of a Southern Mess, where she shares uplifting video messages and words of encouragement with others.

“The Aud Journal of a Southern Mess is a comforting reminder that inspiration and positivity can be found even in the chaos,” Maria said. “It resonates with those who appreciate the beauty in imperfections and the warmth of shared experiences. I have a vision of launching a podcast where I can open up about my life and the challenges I’ve faced. I believe there’s a lot we can learn from sharing our stories, and I hope to connect with others who may be experiencing similar struggles and letting them know they are not alone.”

What inspires someone to give back to others – sometimes complete strangers – in this capacity? For Maria, the answer is simple: be a light.

“Giving back with my glimmers (flowers) is like spreading visible love that brightens the world for a week or more. Witnessing those genuine smiles brings me pure bliss,” Maria shared. “Aud Journal is a way to share love and hope that it touches at least one person, reminding them that no matter what they’ve been through, it does not define them.”

“A single kind word or gesture has the power to uplift not just the person receiving it, but also the one giving it,” Maria added. “A small positive action can transform the course of someone’s day. I truly believe in the importance of making others feel recognized and valued for who they are. I remember those times when I needed it, so why not be the person for others no matter if you’re a stranger or not.”

Maria encourages others to be a beacon of compassion in what can sometimes be a chaotic world.

“Just be kind,” Maria said. “Showing empathy is free and costs us nothing, even a smile even. Our differences make this beautiful world go round, yet we all share a universal desire: to be seen and loved. So, let’s make love and kindness our first language, embracing the beauty in each other.”

You can follow Maria and her pages The Glimmer Patch and The Aud Journal of a Southern Mess on various social media platforms, including Facebook, TikTok, and Instagram.

“Call me crazy, but I’ve witnessed my flowers bloom so big, colorful, and plentiful that I’m convinced flowers and humans share a profound connection,” Maria concluded. “When we nurture one another, we stand tall, shine brightly, and truly flourish.”
