Update: On Monday morning, October 20, officials with the Glasgow Police Department confirmed that alcohol is listed as a contributing factor on the initial report. Toxicology results have not been received as of 9:00 a.m.

Alcohol is suspected to have played a role in a fatal crash in Glasgow last Friday night that claimed the lives of three teenagers and injured several others.

At approximately 11:32 p.m. on October 17, the Glasgow Police Department responded to the scene of the two-vehicle collision.

Preliminary reports indicate that a 2016 Nissan Altima driven by 18-year-old Asa Howard of Edmonton, Ky., was traveling north on North Jackson Highway when it entered the intersection and struck a 2017 Toyota Highlander driven by Timothy Houchens of Glasgow, Ky., who was traveling east on Veterans Outer Loop.

Howard and a passenger, 18-year-old Caden French of Glasgow, were transported by Barren/Metcalfe EMS to TJ Samson Hospital and later airlifted due to critical injuries. Another passenger, 21-year-old Jabari Sweat of Glasgow, was treated at TJ Samson Hospital and later released. Passenger 18-year-old Emily Corbin of Hart County was pronounced dead at the scene. Two additional passengers – a 14-year-old from Bowling Green and a 17-year-old from Edmonton – were also pronounced deceased.

Houchens was transported to TJ Samson Hospital by a private vehicle, while his passenger, Stephen Estes, was taken to the same facility by Hart County EMS.

Officer John Dubarry is leading the investigation with assistance from Barren/Metcalfe EMS, Glasgow/Barren County Emergency Management, Hart County EMS, the Glasgow Fire Department, the Barren County Sheriff’s Department, and the Kentucky State Police.

The Glasgow Police Reconstruction Unit continues to investigate the crash. Alcohol use is suspected as a contributing factor, although toxicology reports were not finalized as of press time.

An inquiry for confirmation with the Glasgow Police Department has been made.
