The Sunfish Roundhill Road has finally been completed. Back in 2022 the Sunfish Roundhill road washed out. The road department then dug until they hit solid material and had to stop.
The original road work repairs were expected to take 4 to 6 weeks, but the project was delayed due to government shutdowns and FEMA not being able to work. While the shutdowns were in place the Fiscal Court waited. A tragedy struck with a man who had recently moved to the county and not knowing about the extreme hole in the road. There were road closed signs but they had been moved and it is believed this caused the confusion which led to his death.
The Fiscal Court has battled with FEMA and Government shutdowns for several years. Expenses on repair prices had changed which change paper work to be re submitted and eventually everything had been settled.
The newly repaired road is now finished and is open to the public, relieving the extra mileage residents were having to travel on the detour. This will also make things simpler when school starts back for the bus system.
