ECHS senior Brayden Johnson continued his dominance on the tennis court Thursday, winning his third consecutive Boys’ Singles 3rd Region Championship and closing out his regular-season high school career with a phenomenal 41-2 region record.

Johnson’s path to the title was nothing short of dominant. Throughout his region career, he defeated 26 opponents without allowing them to win a single game. On his championship run this season, Johnson defeated Cloverport’s Waylon Poole (6-0, 6-0), Daviess County’s Eli Bivens (6-1, 6-0), Owensboro Catholic’s Oliver Haines (6-2, 6-0), and Daviess County’s Landon McDuffee (6-4, 7-6) to secure the championship.

Brayden’s coach and mother, Jodi Johnson, credited both his physical abilities and relentless work ethic for his success.

“Brayden has a body built for tennis,” Johnson said. “He is long, athletic, and very quick, which enables him to cover the entire court. I believe it is his determination and competitive drive that set him apart from other athletes. Whether in academics or sports, Brayden has an innate desire to be the very best, and he is willing to put in the work to get to the top.”

Johnson will play next in the KHSAA State Tournament.  This year, the first rounds will be held at South Warren High School in Bowling Green, Wednesday, May 20.

Johnson ranks No. 1 in the ECHS Class of 2026, & will attend Harvard University this fall, where he plans to major in neuroscience. His desire is to return to Edmonson County and open his own internal medicine practice- giving back to the community that has helped shaped him.

In addition to his athletic accomplishments, Johnson has earned numerous academic honors, including National Merit Scholar, Coca-Cola Scholar Finalist, National Beta Scholar Finalist, and ELKS Most Valuable Student Scholar recognition.

Brayden is the son of Brad & Jodi Johnson (Bee Spring) and the grandson of Hulen & Ronna Sanders (Bee Spring) & Brenda Johnson (& the late Leroy Johnson) of Glasgow.
