Caverna High School senior, Kadence Brown, signed a basketball letter of intent to play at Lindsey Wilson College last week. Brown, a Lady Colonel basketball and softball standout, welcomed Shirley Bradley and Donnie Bradley along with a host of teammates and friends to join her on this special day.

“The campus was very beautiful and it is very close to home,” replied Brown when asked why she chose LWC as her next destination. “I liked the atmosphere and it just felt like a great place for me, a good fit where I could play basketball and get a great education.”

Brown says she plans on majoring in Sports Medicine.

Brown thanked her family, her teachers, her coaches, and her teammates for the support she received while at Caverna. “I couldn’t have accomplished this day, a chance to go to college and play basketball without all the help I received.” she said. “I’ve been blessed to have great people around me.”

Brown simply thanked everyone for coming before she signed on the dotted line. “I look forward to the challenge,” answered Brown when asked about playing basketball at the next level. “I always try to keep a positive mindset. Staying positive helped me at Caverna to get better as a player and to be a good teammate. Those are two of my basketball goals in college, just get better every day and always be a good teammate.”

Blue Raiders’ assistant coach, Terran Duncan, was on hand to welcome Brown to her next assignment as a student and athlete at Lindsey Wilson College. “We are glad to have her, a student and player of her capabilities,” Duncan said after Brown signed her letter of intent. “We are excited for her and for us. We always want to sign good people as well as good student athletes and I’ve heard nothing but good things about her and her character.”

“Everyone says that she is a very hard worker,” Duncan added. “I’m really excited for her to get an opportunity with us in the fall.”

Brown missed part of her senior year in basketball and all of her senior year in softball due to an injury, but she was upbeat and excited as she smiled at the crowd of supporters before taking photos and inviting everyone to share in the refreshments on hand.

Caverna Lady Colonel softball Coach and Athletic Director, Peter Distefano, was on hand to welcome Brown and her many supporters gathered in the school’s library. Distefano in an interview early in the Lady Colonels’ softball season praised Brown for her loyalty to the team despite being unable to play this season.

“KB (Brown) has been out here everyday, doing whatever she can to help the team,” Distefano said. “KB is a big part of the team and the girls are glad, and I’m glad she’s out here.”

Distefano said her sticking with the team was just one of the many things that spoke to Brown’s character. “Having KB out here has given the team a boost and she has been a big help to me as a coach,” Distefano added. “She will be missed at Caverna High School when she graduates.”
