The BCHS Bears baseball team has a core nucleus of seniors who have been getting things done on the diamond with a splash of solid, young talent, too. The Bears improved to 11-9 this past Friday in Madisonville at Hopkins County Central. They rallied in the top of the fifth for six runs to take an 8-4 advantage over the Storm, which they protected, getting runs in the sixth and seventh frame, ultimately winning 11-6.

Every player in the lineup contributed in the come-from-behind victory. Duncan Tyree locked down the Storm when he was called upon early in relief for Mason West, who started on the bump. Tyree got the final out of the second when the Storm took an early, 4-1 lead. Tyree went on to pitch five more innings of four-hit ball on 78 total pitches, 50 of which were for strikes on the night.

Brycen Mode, who hit a two-run single, scored three times from the leadoff position. Eli Oaks, in the two-hole, drove in a pair with a double; and he walked three times while getting around to plate twice. Justin Castlen and Garrett Phelps, hitting third and fourth in the lineup, both delivered a single and double. Castlen raked in three ribeye sandwiches on the night. Mode and Phelps both stole two bags on the base paths.

Sam Hyatt, who had a two-hit night which attributed an RBI, plated a run. Colt Akers was plunked twice and scored twice. Mason West went 1-2 at the plate while drawing two walks, also. West got around to score once; his single contributed another run. Will Amos had a single, a base-on-balls, and a run in the Bears’ team-winning effort.

Big game this week for the Bears at home. They will host the Wildcats of Edmonson County on Thursday with a 7pm start time. The Wildcats got the best of Butler County in a 3-1 battle at Brownsville last month. The two schools are most likely to face one another in the first round of the 12th District Tournament, which the Bears will host on May 19-20th.
