The Metcalfe County Fiscal Court met on Thursday, January 9th, with County Attorney Sharon Howard and Magistrate Ronnie Miller absent.

The agenda was adopted and the minutes from the December 23, 2024, meeting were approved after motions were made by Magistrates Daniel Bragg and Harvey Hawkins.

After the financial report for December, the quarter, and the claims were approved, the rest of the meeting involved items in the other business category. Magistrate Kevin Crain stated that the waterline was completed in the Center area and Judge/Executive Larry Wilson added that crews are working on the water line at Rockland Mills.

Judge Wilson also gave an update on the flooding incident at the county-owned building housing Golden Years and Head Start. He said the cause was a new valve that was installed and when they turned the water cut-off back on the valve inside failed.

Emergency Management Director Adam Bennett stated that the workers came over to the EMS building to borrow a squeegee to clean it all up. They said they changed out the pressure regulator outside to get more pressure to run the sprinkler system and when they did it blew inside.

Paul Davis Restoration came out and dried the building out and will be back out to see what is needed to repair everything.

Judge Wilson said the flooring was ruined and he wasn’t sure what else would need to be repaired. “They cannot reopen until it’s completed. They’re not allowed to…hopefully, the insurance will take care of everything,”

Wilson also stated that the appraiser for the building should be there in about a week.

Treasurer/Fiscal Court Clerk Page Edwards announced, “There is a budget workshop at the BRADD office on February 26th. It’s from 9 to 12. You can get training hours if you want (referring to the Magistrates). You could go on the DLG website and sign up for it.”

Edwards stated that she had registered herself, Finance Officer Connie Taylor, and Judge Wilson already.

Director Bennett was asked about the new radio tower. “We got the tower in…they don’t have it up yet. It came in pieces on pallets and we pulled it into Gary’s (Fancher) driveway and unloaded…when it’s not single digits, we’ll put it together.

Judge Wilson explained that Road Supervisor Chris Compton was not in attendance, because he and his crew were getting everything ready for the rough weather slated to come the next day.

Reports from the Road Department, Recycling Center, and DES were included for reference/questions.

The next regular meeting will be Thursday, January 23, 2025, at 9 a.m. in the fiscal courtroom.
