On Thursday evening, the Butler County Lady Bears welcomed the Lady Eagles from Ohio County not so friendly with the 7th grade team applying pressure the full length of the court in route to a 31-10 annihilation.  However, the Lady Eagles flipped the script in the second game, the 8th grade contest, by doubling up the hosting Lady Bears, who shot a bleak, 11% from the field.

The 7th grade Lady Bears took full advantage of the referees allowing the young ladies to play aggressively.  They used sweltering defense to force 27 turnovers on the visitors.  Off those mistakes by Ohio County, the Lady Bears capitalized with some easy buckets. Brielle Belcher, who led the team churning out 13 points, nearly amassed double-digit steals, tallying nine. Belcher was also perfect from the charity stripe, hitting six for six.

Zaeleigh Russ dropped half-dozen in the dominant win over Ohio County’s 7th grade squad.  Harper Hack scored four points while yanking down nine rebounds.  Emmalin Mode had four points, four steals, and five rebounds.  Tae Rothe and Kaylee Stevens each had a field goal on one of four from the floor.

While the 7th grade cruised, the 8th graders were not be able to score too easily, making only five field goals throughout the 30-15 loss to Ohio County.  Credit to the Lady Eagles, who played fundamentally-sound defense and were poised with the basketball on offense, unlike their younger group, who buckled from the intense pressure in the first game.

Hack turned in another solid performance in the second game. Coming off the bench, she led the Lady Bears with six points while clearing four boards.  Five more players got in the scoring column and the team was balanced in rebounding, in which BCMS controlled, 27-22. Layla Stephano, Destin Wester, and Ava Lindsey nearly had identical stats, two points and five rebounds; Lindsey was one rebound shy. Stephano also led the team with four steals.
