Phillip “Sergeant Major” Gearlds. Photo Submitted.

Hello citizens of Glasgow, KY!

My name is Phillip “Sergeant Major” Gearlds, and I’m excited to be running for Glasgow City Council in the upcoming General Election on Tuesday, November 5th, 2024.

As a longtime resident of Barren County since 1985, my wife Pam and I have built a life here with our three children and four grandchildren, all still living in the county. We recently celebrated 47 years of marriage and are members of Indian Creek Baptist Church. After overseeing the construction of our dream home, we’ve been proud residents of Glasgow since 2021.

I’ve had the honor of serving 27+ years in the Kentucky National Guard, retiring as the 6th State Command Sergeant Major for the Commonwealth of Kentucky, and later worked as a JROTC instructor at Barren County High School for over 11 years. These experiences shaped my leadership skills and dedication to serving others. I’m currently a Content & Curriculum Specialist – Subject Matter Expert for Cadet Portfolio, LLC, serving over 1,300 high schools, 250,000+ cadets/students, and over 4,100+ instructors nationwide. Additionally, I run a family business and serve on the Barren County Ethics Commission.

Throughout my career and military service, I’ve been involved with numerous local organizations such as the VFW, DAV, American Legion, and more. Now, I feel it’s time to bring my skills as a Veteran, Educator, and Leader to help shape the future of Glasgow.

Our city deserves fresh perspectives and progressive actions. I’m eager to contribute to our community’s growth and ensure it remains a place where families like mine continue to thrive. Please mark your calendars and vote on November 5th for #5 on the ballot!
