CANDIDATE: Elizabeth Shoemaker, Glasgow City Council
BALLOT: #3

My name is Elizabeth Shoemaker, and I am running for Glasgow City Council this November 2024.
My campaign slogan is From Glasgow For Glasgow, because I have spent 63 years of my life in Glasgow working in medical offices, factories, and local schools while volunteering in care facilities and the YMCA. I was raised in poverty on Oak Street where I walked the old railroad tracks back and forth to school. Today, my husband Terry and I are close to celebrating fifty years of marriage, and we have two wonderful sons who have blessed us with four grandchildren.
Glasgow is and will always be my home, and I want to give back now by working to improve the community for everyone.
First, I want to help increase quality job opportunities. While my generation stayed in Glasgow, many of my children’s generation went to college and never returned. One of my driving questions is what can we do to entice our children to stay and to invite others to relocate here? Over the last few years, we have lost numerous jobs that have not been replaced. We need to improve our infrastructure and attract new businesses and factories to employ our citizens.
Second, our beautiful city is sadly becoming neglected. Everywhere I look there are auction signs and unkempt properties. We can work together to beautify our properties and widen sidewalks and make our roads safer.
Third, I would like to see the community more involved in the city council meeting, and the city council to be more transparent in how it operates like making the budget public. Instead of raising taxes, we need to find areas where we can cut expenses.
Let me work for you and with you!
Let’s vote for change.
