The Brownsville City Council held its regular meeting on Aug. 3, 2026. All members were in attendance.
The next meeting was moved to Sept. 14, 2026, due to the holiday. The Brownsville Fire Department is included in a regional grant through BRADD. Kyrock VFD is applying for the grant for all the departments for radios. These radios will change all the departments to digital, which will improve communications. The cost per VFD is $9,000. It may take several years to receive results from the grant, but progress is being made to upgrade the VFD’s.
The City has had some interest for properties, and at the next meeting, individuals will be present to present their proposals to the council. The tax collection for the city is improving since the City agreed to hire outside help for the collections. The City wants to remind anyone conducting business in the city limits is subject to pay taxes, file for a business license, and/or pay net profits. If you are not sure, you can contact the city for more information. There is a current job opening in the city as an employee moved on to another employer.
The City has finally had some good news about some safety glass being installed. The City has had this money, which could only be spent on certain building security upgrades. If the money is not used by the end of this year, it will have to be returned.
The City will be reviewing income producing properties and identifying non compliant landlords.
The police department was awarded a grant to purchase new panels for the bulletproof vests. The department was not approved for the grant to purchase new tasers. The City Council then decided to approve the purchase of the tasers.
Chief Hodges thanked the kids through 3 Corners and the city employees who repainted the crosswalks throughout town. He also mention the signs that post notices to semi trucks not to use a jake brake in city limits are missing and need to be replaced.
