Edmonson County turned a 10–0 fourth-quarter deficit into a signature win Friday, September 26, rallying past Butler County 13–10 behind a relentless defense and a game-changing takeaway.
On a dew-slick field that made ball security a challenge for both teams, the Wildcats leaned on defense to stay within striking distance. An early Butler touchdown and a third-quarter field goal put the Bears up 10–0, but Edmonson’s defense kept the game within one score while the offense searched for rhythm.
The breakthrough came in the final frame. Edmonson County pieced together a sustained drive to punch in a touchdown and cut the margin to 10–7. Moments later, with Butler backed up and facing the chains, Wildcats safety Blayne Deweese jumped a pass over the middle, picked it off, and sprinted in for a pick-six to flip the scoreboard 13–10 in favor of the visitors.

From there, the defense finished the job—stonewalling Butler’s ground game and pouncing on a late Bears miscue to close out the win. The result moves Edmonson County to 2–4 overall.
The night didn’t start smoothly. After the Wildcats took advantage of an early turnover, their opening scoring chance clanged off the left upright. But Edmonson County kept answering on defense—limiting explosive runs, tackling in space, and forcing the Bears to earn every yard. That persistence set the stage for the late-game swing.
