Friday night, the Butler County Lady Bears softball hosted Muhlenberg County hoping for different results than the first time playing them; but, before getting into game action, BCHS’s senior softball player, Lydia Brown, was recognized as the lone senior from Coach Amy Rogers’ roster.

Senior night capped off a four-game week, which the Lady Bears went 1-3; however, they played nearly flawlessly at Whitesville against the Lady Raiders on Tuesday night to pick up their second win in district play. Miley Franzell scattered 12 hits, and the defense played soundly behind her effort in the circle, where she struck out seven batters and gave up only three runs.

Helping her cause, Franzell ripped a single and double at the dish along with three other BC hitters getting multiple hits. Karrington Hunt and Callyn Smith had two singles each while Maddie Jones, who went to the yard for her first time the next night, belted two doubles. Hunt and Jones both drove in two runs apiece, also.

Hunt (.432 BA on season) has been on tear as of late. At Bowling Green on Monday, she had four hits in an 8-12 loss to the Lady Purples. She had three ribbies in the game, too. Wednesday was a three-hit night in Leitchfield, where the Lady Bears lost a heartbreak in a walk-off with two outs in the bottom of the seventh to Grayson County, 4-5.

Nonetheless, the Lady Bears may not be in a catbird-seat so to say, but they do not have any more difficulty to make the 3rd Region Tournament than the other three 12th District foes. It is unclear who the Lady Bears will face. Grayson and Trinity still have a game to complete.

The district tournament will take place on the week of the 19th. A good revenge game on the Lady Cats of Edmonson County could be most likely. Look in next week’s paper for date, place, and time.
