Coach Wesley Jones and his barrage of coaches have built a program that may arguably be the best in the Butler County School System; and the BCHS Bears archery team is one of the best in the state once again. Much of that started many years ago when these teenagers were back in elementary school, whether those student-archers went to NBES or MES.
Depth is crucial in the sport of archery. While individuals control their own destiny in the score, he/she obtains, the scores are tallied by the top-archers on the team for a total composite team result. And, the BCHS Bears are perfect on the season in Bullseye competition, winning their first three tournaments. They received second in their only 3-D event a couple weeks ago at Warren East’s Ephram White Park.
The Bears, who have competed against as many as 13 teams, are balanced extremely well with talented boys and girls on the roster. Many of these marksmen and women, have all reached scores in the 280’s (Bulleye) with one archer reaching the score of 290, Lucas Reynolds. Reynolds has been in the 280’s the other two tournaments.
Jeffery Parrish and Eli Ellis are two other participants consistently performing in the 280’s in all three events on the season, with Parrish also meeting the mark of 287 in the 3-D shoot at Warren East to lead the Bears. Ellis (289) and Parrish (288) nearly reached the 290 plateau in the Bullseye there, also.
Also scoring in the 280’s on the season has been: Virginia White, Grant Jones, Colton Phelps, Jacob Vinson, Bricen Hartley, Larkin O’Connell, Maggie Childers, and Graysen Henderson.
Addison Henderson, William Turner, Lydia Brown, Brayden Barks, William Yang, Courtnei Alexander, Malia Merideth, Lexi Bryant, Ellis Johnson, Hunter Glenn, and Lanny Blunk have all produced scores in the 270’s at competition this season to help propel their team.
The most bulls hit in competition also goes to Reynolds (22) with Parrish nearing the mark by nailing 21 in both styles (Bullseye and 3-D). Ellis and Jones have stuck 20 bullseyes in events, also.
Last year, the girls went to the State Championship along with one male representing, Eli Ellis. One competitor, no need in mentioning the school, loaded up by combining their boys/girls to upset the boys hopes of making it to state; however, do not expect Coach Jones and company to allow that to happen this season.
BCHS archery, barring an upset or debacle, should have a plethora of archers representing at the state level as these young men/women work religiously to hone their craft of hitting bullseyes, day in and day out.
