After traveling east before Christmas, the BCHS Lady Bears made westerly to Murray thereafter. In Murray, they won two games against Webster (67-58) and Trigg Counties (50-19) while falling to Madisonville-North Hopkins by only two points, 66-64.
Saturday afternoon, the Lady Bears picked up their seventh win of the season when the 5th Region, LaRue County Lady Hawks traveled to Morgantown. In what started slow, the Lady Hawks hung around for a little bit. Then, the rout would begin; until, the final buzzer ended it, 48-32.
Butler and LaRue missed several shots in the opening period and the score rested in favor of the Lady Bears, 11-5. LaRue squeezed out of the Lady Bears’ press and found some buckets to get within a possession early in the second. However, fatigue and inexperience began to sink in; as a result, Ava Wilson and Carley Cardwell feasted.
Wilson fed Cardwell three times on the block. Cardwell raced for layups on two steals, also. Wilson, who was honored before the game with her 500th career rebound, not only distributed the basketball, but she collected several rebounds and free-throws while also taking a steal for a coast-to-coast and-one finish. Both were in double-digits by the popcorn break.

In the third, Bailey Moore, who plays with her head up, found Ann Marie Skaggs twice and Bella Easley did so as well. Skaggs, who also found a loose rebound for a putback, scored nine to go with her six first-half points to lead the Lady Bears with 15 total points in the game. With a 23-point lead, the final eight minutes was absorbed with bench time.
Going back to the Murray Bank Lady Tiger Classic the weekend before last, the Bears opened with Webster County. Five Lady Bears reached double figures in the win. Skaggs dialed in for 16 and Moore netted 14. Wilson scored 13 while Karrington Hunt and Cardwell went for ten. Tinslea Belcher chipped in the other four. Cardwell, Wilson, Belcher, and Skaggs all nearly got double-digits in rebounds, also.
Hunt hit a perfect 7/7 from the charity stripe in the heartbreaker facing Madisonville-North Hopkins. Hunt also led the team with 19 points. Skaggs threw in 18 to go with her nine boards. Wilson, who hit 8/9 from the free-throw line, dumped 16 points and ripped 17 rebounds. Moore and Cardwell each finished with five while Belcher hit a freebie to round out the scoring in the two-point loss.

Butler County dominated Trigg County in their finale at Murray. Nine different players got in the scoring column for them. Wilson churned out 12 and Skaggs/Hunt each had ten. Moore scored four and four more Lady Bears had three; Cardwell, Raleigh Skaggs, Destin Wester, and Emmalin Mode. Jenna Tomes skipped out of town with two points, also.
Next test for the Lady Bears will be Friday night at 6pm. The girls will play first in the district boy/girl doubleheader against the Grayson County Lady Cougars. The Lady Bears lost three times to the neighboring nemesis by more ten each time last season in regular season. However, Butler County took the Lady Cougars down in the 12th District Championship, when it counted most. Both games should be extremely entertaining in the Bear Cave, don’t miss out!
