After the Mustangs derailed the 7th Grade Bears’ perfect season the week before, winning 8-6 in Morgantown, Muhlenberg County set host for the championship this past Wednesday night in the rematch. With a great group of supporters in attendance, the Bears found themselves behind 6-0 on a botched play where the Mustang quarterback was running for his life, as he was most of the game. Somehow, a receiver got behind the defense, wide open, reeling in a heave from the scrambling QB.

Behind a robust effort, led by the Bears quarterback, Bo Abbott, BCMS appeared poised to lasso the game away from the hosting Mustangs. The Bears defense was on lockdown and Abbott kept drives alive with his legs. After a JT Gay big gain on third and long, Abbott got help moving the pile and the chains on fourth and short to set up a new set of downs starting from the Mustangs’ twenty with under four minutes left in the game.

Unfortunately, a couple penalties pushed them back out of the red zone, leaving Abbott to make a desperation attempt on fourth and long. His pass got batted around and found a Mustang defender to eliminate the Bears last chance. Muhlenberg went on to capture the GRVC Championship while BCMS brought home the runner-up finish following a stellar season by the 7th Grade Bears.
