The Edmund Rogers Chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution held their annual luncheon at the Lera B. Mitchell Clubhouse on Saturday, June 1 where Linda Hunt was recipient of the 2024 Community Service Award.
This month marks a set-aside time to recognize citizens for their achievements. June Jackson, past Regent of the chapter nominated Linda, stating, “The DAR Community Service Award is one of our most respected awards and is presented annually to a person who has performed unpaid, voluntary community service in an outstanding manner.”
Linda is a long-time citizen of Cave City and is known as the city’s historian. Her husband Bob Hunt is a former mayor of Cave City and operated the Hunt Funeral Home for many years. Linda has been instrumental in implementing many programs and events in Cave City. She started Socktober to collect socks for children and seniors. She served on the Quasquibicentennial Committee celebrating Barren County’s 225 anniversary, to name a few.
Jeff Lawson, President of the Cave City Chamber of Commerce, recognized her as “a very deserving recipient of the Community Service Award.”
Cave City Mayor Dwayne Hatcher also recommended Linda for the award stating, “Throughout her life, Linda has been very dedicated in service on many civic and business activities.”
The June meeting starts the new fiscal year for DAR with the installation of any new officers. Wilmetta McPherson presented a display on the 80th anniversary of D-Day, the Normandy invasion.
