The Edmonton City Council met in a special called session on Thursday, September 24th. Those in attendance were Mayor Doug Smith, Council members Teresa Hamlett, Curt Estes, Cathy Nunn, Faye Word, and Tommy England, Police Chief David Robertson, City Clerk/Administrator Dawn Devore, and PJ Martin from The Herald-News.
Mayor Doug Smith opened the meeting and declared a quorum present and reminded everyone that it was a special called meeting and only the items on the agenda could be discussed.
The second reading of Ordinance # 2026-2027-03 Real and Personal Property Tax rates was approved after motions by Estes and Hamlett. The approved rate is 0.82 (8.2 cents per $100) for Real Property and Personal Property. This is down .4 from 2025’s 8.6 cents per $100.
Next on the agenda was Resolution # 2026-2027-02 to authorize the city to apply for the Government Resources Accelerating Needed Transformation (GRANT) Program of 2026 project application for up to $200,000. This is a proposed match for the ARC grant applied for earlier. Both grants are for building the amphitheater at the Edmonton Memorial Park. The Resolution was approved after motions by Nunn and Word.
There was no other business on the agenda, and the meeting adjourned.
