MCHS Junior Selected for Inaugural Civic Leadership Institute

EDMONTON, Ky. Metcalfe County Schools is proud to announce that an MCHS student has been selected to participate in the first-ever statewide Civic Leadership Institute.
Leah Kerr, a junior at Metcalfe County High School, is one of 40 students who will attend the new multi-year program, which is designed to prepare high school students for future leadership in law, government, public policy, history, education, public service, and other civic-minded fields.
The Institute will operate at two locations: the Western Kentucky University Center for Gifted Studies in Bowling Green and the University of Louisville McConnell Center in Louisville.
“Being selected for the Civic Leadership Institute is a wonderful opportunity for Leah,” Metcalfe County Schools Gifted Coordinator Autumn Shirley said. “I have had the privilege of watching Leah actively seek opportunities that challenge her, expand her perspective, and strengthen her leadership skills. I am excited to see how she uses this experience to make a positive impact in her school and community.”
MCHS Principal Joseph Eaton said, “We continue to be so proud of Leah. She demonstrates a level of leadership that sets her apart, and she strives to improve that leadership continuously. I know she will grow from this experience and represent MCHS and Metcalfe County with Hornet Pride.”
Leah and other participants will attend six Saturday sessions throughout the school year featuring hands-on experiences in civic leadership and development.
As students’ progress through the multi-year program, they will participate in increasingly advanced experiences, summer programming, and ultimately a senior capstone project in Washington, D.C.
