The year 2026 has been an exciting time for Edmonson County so far, marked by significant growth and development throughout the community.

Several key projects around town are currently underway or in the planning stages, including important upgrades to the Community Center. A new porch will be added, featuring a handicap-accessible ramp to ensure accessibility for all residents. This improvement is funded by the American Rescue Plan Agency (ARPA).

In addition, a new “Welcome to Brownsville” sign is being created to warmly greet tourists and residents alike. This sign is being purchased with grant money awarded for signage and beautification purposes through the Edmonson County Tourism Committee. Such enhancements help promote local pride and encourage visitors to explore the community.

Educational facilities are undergoing change as well, now that school is out for the summer. South Edmonson Elementary School is undergoing construction to add new classrooms to the school. Also there is a new school being built at Kyrock Elementary that is scheduled to open in the 27/28 school year.

The Edmonson County Public library is also in the process of upgrading and temporarily moving buildings. In the meantime, the clubs and events that are usually held at the library are going to take place at the 5/6 center or the Lions Club Building.

The Edmonson County Water District is going to be building a new water intake and will be doing some overall upgrades at the water plant as well, all under the direction of the new general manager, Daniel Brown.

New pickle ball courts will be built at both Chalybeate and Bee Spring Parks. These courts will offer residents new opportunities for recreation and foster a stronger sense of community through sports.

Local State Representative Michael Meredith helped secure $1.45 million in funding from the Kentucky General Assembly to upgrade the Highway 70 Ballpark. The planned improvements include new baseball fields, installation of new bleachers, and repairs to any broken or damaged fencing, remodeling restrooms, and replacing old playground equipment. These enhancements will improve the overall enjoyment of the park and increase its ability to host events and meet each individual’s needs.

Edmonson County is experiencing growth across multiple areas. These developments reflect the county’s commitment to enhancing accessibility, recreation, education, and tourism, creating a stronger, more welcoming environment for everyone. These projects each show that Edmonson County is going to keep on improving and expanding our community.
