Joy Marie Pernat

GLASGOW – Joy Marie Pernat, 62, passed away peacefully on Friday, September 26, 2025, at the Shanti Niketan Hospice House, surrounded by her loving family. She was the daughter of Edna Marie Rauch Delair and the Late Royal Peter Delair.

Born in Palos Park, IL, in 1963, and later moved to Elwood, IL in 1974 to finish her grade school years at Anna McDonald Elementary in Manhattan, IL. She graduated from Joliet East High School in 1981, where she loved playing softball. She obtained her Associate’s Degree from Joliet Junior College. Later, she studied Communication Design/ Art History at the University of Illinois at Chicago. From August 1995 to September 2007, she was a designer at Joy Marie Interiors. In April of 2013 till her passing, she was employed by Sherwin-Williams in Glasgow, Kentucky, where everyone loved her because she would go the extra mile for her customers.

Joy married Steven Pernat on May 9, 2009, in Oconomowoc, WI. In 2014, they relocated to Glasgow, Kentucky. Her hobbies were many in number, including gardening, horseback riding, home remodeling projects, reading, outdoors, cooking, and Grilling.

Joy will be missed by all her love, generosity, and kind deeds that always touched our hearts. To sum it up she was a skilled craftsman with no projects challenging to tackle, and she was always a lending hand.

She is survived by her loving husband, Steven Pernat; her mother, Edna Rauch DeLair; and one brother, Henry (Hank) DeLair. Joy was the best sister in-law to Sandra DeLair. She has several nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews that was special to her, and whom she loved dearly. Two dogs, Herman and Abby; three cats, Emmit, Ralph, and Alice; and three horses, Loni, Ranger, and Gladys.

In addition to her father, she is preceded in death by two brothers, Lee DeLair and Pete DeLair; and one sister, Barbara (DeLair) Stamm.

Joy’s wishes were to be cremated. There are no services scheduled at this time. Family has requested that, in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Shanti Naketen Hospice House, 1301 North Race Street, Glasgow, KY 42141. Hatcher & Saddler Funeral Home are assisting the family with arrangements.
