June 2, 2025. Brownsville City Council held its regular meeting with all current Council members present.
Business licenses are not being paid for by businesses in the city. If you are going to do business in the city you must have a license, this includes food trucks also. Events held by different groups need to make sure that the vendors they are allowing into the event have a license. The City Council discussed ways to address the problem, but no decision has been made yet.
Brownsville has changed from using the Kenway dump to the dump in Leitchfield. This decision was made due to pricing and that many tires have gotten damaged and need to be repaired or replaced. Along with new rates, there will be fines for trash that is brought from outside the city to be placed in a city trash receptacles and late payment fees.
The second reading of Ordinance #5-25 was read. This ordinance will raise the price of trash pick-ups in the city. The new rates will begin on July 1, 2025.
The first reading of Ordinance #6-25 A for the fiscal year 25-26 was read.
The first reading of #6-25 B budget amendment. The second reading was set for 6/3/25 at 9:30 am.
In the Mayors updates, Mayor Simon stated the city park is still being cleaned up after the multiple floods. The city has applied for a grant. He is hoping to be able to qualify and use the money for some benches, grills and picnic tables to make the city park more family friendly.
