With some missing members and a highly competitive field, the BCHS FFA Chapter was not considered the favorite to win back-to-back state titles when they traveled to the Barren River Rod and Gun Club on May 10th to compete in the trap competition. However, much to everyone’s surprise, the squad gave an excellent performance to repeat as state champions, winning by two birds over the next closest team.
Elivia Heard pulled off another highest scorer in the female division for the second year in row. Dalton Hale tied with four other individuals for the overall highest achieving male marksman. Hale went the wire, forcing multiple rounds with the eventual winner. He fell one bird short in the third and final tiebreaker, placing him second overall.

“If you would have told me that we would have come in the top five, I would have been pleased,” Coach John Ross Webster exclaimed. The team was without sharp shooters, Mason Johnson and Carson Cardwell, who were not able to attend. “Winning it, and for the second year in a row, is just remarkable, Webster declared.
Not only are many of these young men and women getting to shoot trap with FFA, BCHS has a trap team that is competing in the state tournament next month at Berea, as reported last week. About 15 members make up that team. The 4-H Club has a shooting team, also. It is a great time to be part of shooting sports in Butler County; we have some of the best!
