Barn Lot Theater presents Packing Up Polly

Special to the Herald-News

Caroline Porter Cook (Leigh Witty) is returning home to Savannah, Georgia from her life in Atlanta to pack up her mother’s things after her death. Her dearly departed mother, Polly Porter, was a famous 1970s gospel singer with the group Polly Porter & the Praise His Name Singers.

Caroline struggles with the loss of her mother and the overwhelming task ahead of packing up all her mother’s things. Unfortunately, Miss Polly was a hoarder, and Caroline must rely on the help of her old high school friends to get through all of the clutter.

Elizabeth Jennings (Sandy Roberts Dunn) offers to help, but she can be somewhat overbearing and is the owner of the Miss Georgia Belle Pageant contests. Also talked into helping are friends Donna Jo Martin (Julie Adkins), a theater diva, and Rebecca Bailey (Carol Stephens) a mother of 4 with another on the way.

These four women went to high school together and that adds to the drama, the gossip, hidden secrets, and sisterly love that comes with female friendships.

Oh, did we mention that Miss Polly’s ashes, still in the cardboard container, are sitting on the table the whole time?

If you’re a fan of heartwarming and comical stories, you won’t want to miss Barn Lot Theaters’ upcoming production of Packing up Polly, opening on May 1st. This play promises to deliver laughs, tears, and everything in between.

Rated PG for language and mild adult themes.
