On February 11, 2025, Edmonson County resident Jack Hasty was named to Hughes and Coleman as a Hometown Hero. For the month of March, Jack will receive the distinction of Hometown Hero of the Month. This comes along with a $500 donation to a non-profit of his choice, which will be DAV Chapter 32.

Jack began his service in 1964 when he was drafted into the military. He served in Germany and Vietnam in 1966 and 1967. After that, he came back to the States, where he said it was a bad time for veterans because stories had circulated that were negative for soldiers.

In 1982 Hasty moved to the area with the influx of GM workers and has never regretted the decision. He spoke about how he loved living in Edmonson County and that the people were so welcoming and friendly.

Hasty retired from GM and became very active in the local DAV and VFW. He was the Commander of the VFW Post 6937, in Brownsville, for 19 years. He has been Commander of the DAV Chapter 32 since 2016. Hasty is also a member of the Military Order of the Cootie, which helps provide aid to hospitalized veterans. Hasty is a past Grand Commander. Hasty has helped with the Edmonson County High School Veterans Day program for the last 19 years. He is an Edmonson County Chamber of Commerce member and has helped raise donations for the Edmonson County Senior Food Pantry.

Hasty helps his fellow Veterans with paperwork to receive benefits due to them. He has also helped to provide transportation to hospitals and doctor visits. Hasty said he is seeing more younger veterans reach out to the VFWs and DAVs. He tries to just have a conversation with them to figure out what he can do to help and just takes it from there. Hasty helps veterans in Allen, Barren, Butler, Edmonson, Hart, Logan, Simpson, and Warren counties.

Besides working with the DAV and VFW Jack enjoys his family life. Jack is a proud Dad to two children, a grandpa to six grandchildren, a Great-Grandpa to 4, and a Great-Great-Grandpa to 3.
