Edmonson County Fiscal Court Still Searching for Solutions to Animal Shelter Issues

The Fiscal Court approved Resolution EC25-07, Animal Shelter Agreement. BGWC has agreed to continue the deal with Edmonson County on the condition that Edmonson Fiscal Court increase the payment another $2000 for the year.
Judge Lindsey stated that Hart County has support from the Bissell family and he has spoken with them about possibly taking care of some of Edmonson County’s animals in the future if Warren County cannot handle the overflow of animals from Edmonson County. Hart County will be building a 100-unit facility and stated they believe they can stay in Edmonson’s budget.
In the road report, Joel Montgomery reported the road department is checking ditches and installing a few tiles. On the railroad sign the cost for repair is $267, with a year warranty and it will take 3 months to get the flasher.
The Emergency Management Director Terry Massey reported there had been 26 runs in the last two weeks. Cedar Grove Church was lost in a fire. He encouraged everyone to get the flu shot. Massey also reported that Edmonson County is on the line for an upcoming severe winter weather watch.

Sheriff James Vincent gave the sheriff’s report. Vincent said his department had a foot pursuit after disabling a vehicle. There were a couple of fires that raised concerns, but at this time, investigations are ongoing.
Jailer Todd Vincent stated there were currently 13 inmates in the Hart County Jail.
County Attorney, Adam Turner said the entertainment permits are starting to come in. The Court needs to decide if they are going to have all the meetings at once or one at a time. His office will be closed on Feb.
County Clerk Kevin Alexander reported that his office has received two entertainment permit requests. He explained that tax bill cards from Frankfort in Jan. go out late. The Excess Fee report is smaller than normal but he expects it to pick up by the end of March.
Parks and Rec. Director Cody Stewart reported basketball started back up. Little League Baseball forms are due back on Feb. 22. These forms can be obtained through the school system or at the Judge Exec. Office.
In committee reports, Magistrate TJ Massey said he has spoken with the painter for the community building, and he is waiting for the weather to warm so that the paint will adhere to the building.
In new business
In updates, the second reading of EC25-04 for the $2 million Water Board pass-through payment was completed. Resolution EC25-04 Jailer Duties and Compensation Fiscal Year in the amount of $41,160 was approved.
Fiscal Court approved the Treasurer’s Jan. monthly settlement report and
County Corner Richie Jones reported that for 2024 there were 27 corner calls.
In updates, several members of the Fiscal Court will be attending the Legislative Day in Frankfort Wed. Judge Lindsey will also be attending the area development district meeting on Thurs.
Terry Massey stated that there has been some confusion about dispatching fire departments to clear trees from the roads during inclement weather. The road department was overwhelmed recently, and Massey would just like things to be clear.
Plans continue with Sunfish Roundhill Road repair.
The Fiscal Court approved the following pending a final audit; Sheriff’s Jan. Monthly Fee Account, Sheriff’s Jan. Property Tax reports, Sheriff’s Jan. Franchise Tax report, Sheriff’s Jan. Oil Tax report, County Clerk’s Jan. MVAV Tax Collection report, County Clerk’s Jan. Deed Transfer Tax report, County Clerk’s Jan. Delinquent Tax Collection report, County Clerk’s Jan. Excess Fees report and County Clerk’s 2024 annual settlement for ending final audit.
Fiscal Court acknowledged the County Clerk’s Jan. Document Storage Fee, pending final audit. The Fiscal Court acknowledged the Dog Control CAD report for Jan. and the BGWC Jan. Shelter Directors report.
The next Fiscal Court meeting is on Feb. 24 at 4:00 pm in the upstairs courtroom and is open to the public.
