The Edmonton/Metcalfe Industrial Development Authority (IDA) held its regular meeting on Monday, September 16th with board members Lisa Boswell, Jerry Garmon, Donna Caffee, Matt Gallagher, and Luke Wilson. Also in attendance were Mayor Doug Smith, Judge/Executive Larry Wilson, and reporter PJ Martin. The only member absent was Terry Garrett.
The minutes of the last meeting on August 19th were reviewed by those present. A motion to accept those minutes was made by Jerry Garmon and seconded by Donna Caffee. The motion was approved.
Chairperson Lisa Boswell asked Treasurer/Secretary Alley Bragg to present the monthly financial statement for August.
The account balance as of July was $26,564.35. On Aug. 5th Pennington Stave Company paid the loan amount of $10,941.90 on the Edmonton State Bank loan and on Sept. 5th they paid the amount of $10,941.90 on the Edmonton State Bank loan. The balance of the account earned $2.90 interest and the bookkeeper was paid leaving a balance on September 13th at $26,418.50.
The motion was made and approved to accept the financial statement.
The agenda listed Chris Jeffries who was to give a presentation on recycling; however, he advised chairperson Lisa Boswell that he would not be present.
Boswell asked if anyone had any other business to discuss and Garmon stated that he had a question.
Garmon asked, “My understanding, from the last meeting, that we thought that the stave mill was gonna be back up and kicking. I haven’t noticed it kicking anything. The payments good, I guess that’s all that matters, but does anyone know what’s going on?”
Mayor Doug Smith answered, “I know he’s (Pennington) got some working. He’s out there…”
Boswell asked, “Did anybody else see that they’re going to double the warehouse in Bardstown?”
“Yeah, I think that’s part of the reason, because of the staves, see they don’t have rickhouses,” said Smith adding, “They’re building more.”
Judge Wilson asked who mows the hay at the Industrial Park and if they are going to mow it. Smith replied that Charles Jolly usually mows it for the hay, but hasn’t this year.
After a brief discussion, it was decided to contact Jolly first, but Wilson said he would check and see if the county has a batwing mower to mow it with, but if not, they need to get someone to bush hog it and clean around the pond too.
No other business was brought up so the meeting adjourned.
The next scheduled meeting of the board is October 21, 2024, at 2 p.m. at City Hall.
