Staff Report
On Friday, July 3rd, in commemoration of 250 years of American history and to honor Kentucky’s contributions, the Edmund Rogers Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution held a dedication ceremony for the Metcalfe County America 250 Liberty Tree in the old Metcalfe County courthouse lawn. The recently planted Tulip Poplar tree honors patriots, veterans, and America’s 250th Anniversary.
DAR members Judye Hafling and Wilmetta McPherson provided the invocation, history, dedication, and benediction for the ceremony.
The liberty tree was a treasured symbol in the years leading up to the American Revolution in the thirteen colonies. The Sons of Liberty in each community selected a large tree as a gathering place.
The tulip poplar tree symbolizes the past and honors the men and women who gave their lives to preserve our freedoms and secure our future. The tree stands as a living, enduring symbol of the deep roots of our democracy and of the noble sacrifices made to advance the cause of independence.
The members of the Edmund Rogers Chapter NSDAR have dedicated this tree in recognition of the service of all Patriots.
The Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America was provided by Charles Costello, VFW Post 6281.
