The BCMS Lady Bears softball team hosted the St. Mary Angels from Whitesville on Tuesday of last week and the Breckinridge County Tigers a couple days later. After Butler County scored two in the bottom of the first, St. Mary scratched out a run in the top of the third to make it a 2-1 contest. However, the Lady Bears’ bats came alive thereafter, scoring five in the third before ending the game with two more runs in the fourth for a 9-1 thrashing.
The home team busted out ten total hits and only struck out once. Emalyn Mode ripped three of those and Brielle Belcher collected a couple base knocks. Callyn Smith and Destin Wester both tallied two RBIs in the affair. Audrey Green swiped a bag and Eliza Lynch stole two. Eight different players scored for Butler County.

Breckinridge visited Thursday and got treated badly as well. The first inning resulted in nine runs for the Lady Bears, who showed patience at the plate without swinging at bad pitches and taking walks—the walks came in hordes. The eight bases on balls left for only six hits for Butler County, who put the game away, 10-0, with a single run in the third.
Mode once again led the Lady Bears with two hits. Mode also drove in two runs. Belcher plated twice and Raylynn Nicewinter had the game’s only extra-base hit. Abigail Dreise and Belcher each stole a base, too. Once again, the Lady Bears only struck out one time; and, the home team outhit the Lady Tigers six to two in the game.
On defense, the Lady Bears did not commit an error in either contest; of course, they do not get many attempts either. Of the 21 total outs in both games, 12 came via strikeout by Smith, who has been sensational for BCMS this season. The 7th grader has developed significantly from last season with the biggest observation of growth being able to limit flurries of walks. Smith has been exceptional in working around baserunners for the most part of this season in comparison to last.

The BCMS Lady Bears will test themselves as they take to the road and head over to Beaver Dam on Thursday, September 12th. Word on the street is that Ohio County Middle School has an exceptional record, also. Sports fans will want to get out and see this showdown between the two neighboring counties.
