The Branstetter Park Music Festival and Homecoming is scheduled for its 98th year on Saturday, August 24th, and Sunday, August 25th. The event is family-friendly and you can enjoy a day of free entertainment and socialization.
The park is located near the intersection of Highway 90 and Highway 163, about one mile east of Summer Shade, Kentucky at 396 Branstetter Park-Old Trace Road.
Throughout the day you can enjoy handmade crafts and listen to shade tree pickers gathered beneath the abundance of trees or just partake of the homemade goodies from the ladies in the concessions.
On Saturday, the music starts at 10 a.m. with The Hornet’s Nest Pickers, and then at noon, the mic will be open to anyone who wants to sing and play for the crowd.
Also, beginning at 10 a.m. are the concessions. There will be hotdogs, chicken or Mexican hamburger plates, pinto beans and cornbread, and those mouthwatering homemade desserts.
You might play a game of checkers while the kids enjoy games beginning at 1:00 p.m. The games are for all ages and include the diaper derby, stick horse race, relay race, ball toss, 3-legged race, sack race, tug of war, and a bicycle race. There are also swings in the park for the children to play on.
On Sunday, beginning at 10 a.m. the welcome will be presented by Harold Stilts, memorials will be read by Terry Hurt, the memorial song “The Last Mile of the Way,” will be led by Chloe Dodson. The devotional will be led by Bro. Shane Dodson and the message brought by Bro. Mark Park.
After the message, around noon, the whole group gathers for a potluck lunch so bring your favorite dish to the event. Following the meal, there will be special singing by Long Creek Bluegrass Gospel.
Also on Sunday, there are prizes for the person who traveled the farthest to attend, the oldest and youngest in attendance, and the couple married for the longest time.
