American Legion Post 65 Edmonton-Metcalfe County held its monthly meeting on Saturday, June 8, 2024. David England presided over the swearing-in of the new officers for 2024-2025. The new Commander is David Hill, replacing Bill Lagermann. The 2024-25 Adjutant is Alan Pizor, replacing Bill Lagermann. The new Finance Officer is Bill Lagermann, replacing Bill Lytle.
After the monthly meeting, the group met at the grounds of the Historic Metcalfe County Courthouse to place a wreath of the monument. The original plan was to do this on Sunday, May 26, 2024, for Memorial Day, but the event was canceled due to weather.
Bill Lytle led a prayer to start the program. Charley Costello read the names of those who died in the service of our country. He also played TAPS. Commander David Hill of American Legion Post 65 and Commander Donald Lloyd of VFW Post 6281 were honored to place the wreath at the monument. The beautiful wreath was donated by Metcalfe County Florist who in the past has donated many wreaths.
After TAPS was played, Bill Lagermann handed out door prizes of 3’ by 5’ American Flags. These flags, and a 5’ x 8’ American Flag for Bowling Park, were purchased through funds given by Thrivent Financial for Lutherans. The winners of the flags were Nancy Taylor, Charlotte Yates, Floyd Fields, Lee Ann Marshall, and Commander Donald Lloyd.
Chris and Bill Lagermann presented Lisa Boswell with a new flag for Bowling Park.
