Keith Sanders Officially Announces Retirement

Edmonson County Fiscal Court held its regular meeting on August 24, 2026. All magistrates were in attendance.
EMS Director Keith Sanders officially announced his retirement after 31 years of service. Sanders introduced Brian McKinny of Butler County as his replacement. McKinny previously retired from Butler County after 27 years at the ambulance service. Thank you Mr. Sanders for all your years of service.
Joe-Joe Montgomery gave the road report. Montgomery stated the department was finishing up the second round of mowing on the south side. The department has also been installing road tiles.
The Fiscal Court had a good discussion about flex roads and the funds available to maintain the county’s roads. This year the budgets have been cut, so state flex and county road aid is down $833,000. This is a state wide concern as 118 counties have taken a hit on these budgets. No reason has been given as to why the budgets have been cut so drastically, except that less gas tax was paid in last year.
Emergency Director Terry Massey reported 27 runs in 2 weeks. Massey request large tarps to be placed over the travel trailers to cover the tops in order to prevent damages as the trailers have never been used and it would be a waste to let them deteriorate. The Trailers were provided to the county from FEMA in the event of a disaster it would provide temporary emergency housing to residents.
In the Jailer’s report, Ray Wilhite stated there are currently 14 inmates in Hart County Jail.
Cody Stewart, with Parks and Rec. announced soccer registration is closed. 145 kids were signed up to play this year. The HWY 70 walking bridge is complete, and road tiles have been installed. The next step will be paving. The pickle ball courts at Chalybeate are complete.
Committee reports: Barbee, Cox, and Fairview roads were discussed. All three roads will need cul-du-sacs installed and a tile on Fairview at the intersection. The end of Cox Road may have to be resurveyed. $34,550. A discussion about bringing the road’s width up to the standard need will cause interference with property owners’ yards.
Ordinance EC26-23, E911 surcharge had its 2nd reading and was approved. The E911 charge will now be moved to the water bills.
The Fiscal Court scheduled a new meeting date, as a special call meeting, for Tax Rates on September 10, 2026 at 4:00 pm.
The Fiscal Court acknowledged the Bowling Green Warren County July Shelters Director report.
The Fiscal Court approved reappointing Scott Lindsey, Rodger Stevenson, and Janet Dennison to the Industrial Authority Board of Directors.
The next meeting is September 10, 2026, at 4:00 pm in the upstairs courtroom. The meeting is open to the public, and everyone is encouraged to attend.
