Community members of all ages gathered at the Butler County Public Library on Thursday, July 9, 2026, to help create a one-of-a-kind community art project that will become a permanent display in the new library.

Participants were invited to decorate a large wooden craft stick with their own unique colors, designs, and creativity.  Each decorated stick will become part of a larger community masterpiece, carefully arranged into a decorative design on a mat, professionally framed, and displayed in the new library as a lasting symbol of the community’s support and involvement.

The event welcomed everyone, from experienced artists to those simply looking to enjoy an afternoon of creativity.  Halfway through the event they had almost reached 100 popsicle sticks that had been decorated, with more participants expected before the event concluded.

As a special keepsake, each child received a free copy of “The Dot” by Peter H. Reynolds, a beloved children’s book that encourages creativity, self-expression, and the idea that even the smallest mark can inspire something extraordinary.

The collaborative artwork will serve as a meaningful reminder of the many individuals and families who will help celebrate the opening of the new Butler County Public Library and the spirit of community that made the project possible.
