Six Students Selected for Summer Learning Programs

Metcalfe County Schools is proud to announce that six students have been selected for the 2026 Rogers Explorers and Rogers Scholars programs.
MCMS 8th-grade students Emryn Fultz, Sarah Gilley, Barrett Glass, and Ariel Milton will attend the Rogers Explores program, while sophomores Morgan Avery and Lydia Bennett will attend the Rogers Scholars program
The Center for Rural Development sponsors both programs. Scholars is the center’s flagship program. It provides leadership and college scholarship opportunities to help rising high school juniors develop the skills they need to seize their potential as the region’s next generation of business and entrepreneurial leaders.
“Being chosen for these programs is one of the highest honors a student in our region can achieve,” MCHS Principal Joseph Eaton said. “I am incredibly proud that Lydia Bennett and Morgan Avery have been selected as our 2026 Rogers Scholars representatives. It speaks volumes about the character, work ethic, and leadership these two young ladies bring to our hallways every day. They truly embody the spirit of Metcalfe County High School, and I have no doubt they will represent MCHS with distinction.”
Rogers Scholars receive hands-on instructional training from professional experts in engineering, health care, and video production, and interact with nationally recognized business leaders and entrepreneurs.
Similarly, Rogers Explorers helps rising ninth-grade students interested in science, math, and technology start their journey toward careers in these in-demand fields. Experts guide participants through hands-on assignments that encourage creative thinking and teamwork and build leadership skills.
MCMS Principal Jenny Stotts-Lundy said, “This is an excellent learning opportunity for Emryn, Sarah, Barrett, and Ariel. These four students are critical thinkers and problem solvers, eager to explore new ideas and make a positive impact in their school and community. We are proud of their achievements and excited to see how they will continue to grow through this experience.”
The program, named after U.S. Congressman Harold “Hal” Rogers, continues his goal of ensuring that no young person should have to leave home to find their future.
