Shell acknowledged the challenges Kentucky farmers have faced this spring, describing the planting season as a “hard struggle.” He noted that Kentucky is currently about 150 growing degree days behind where it was last year, and the state has already received 48 inches of rain—equal to the total for all of last year, and its only June. Still, Shell expressed confidence in the resilience and determination of Kentucky farmers, stating they would “come back strong this summer season.”
