Jody and Alice Forgy have been married for 62½ years, having tied the knot on August 18, 1962. Jody was born and raised in Butler County, while Alice grew up in Logan County.
In 1959, Jody happened to be in Logan County, standing in the old band room, when he looked across the room and noticed the most beautiful redheaded girl he had ever seen, chatting with her best friend. Later, he asked her friend if he could meet that striking redhead. When Alice was told that a Jody Forgy wanted to meet her, she responded, “Who is Jody Forgy?”
When they finally met, Alice was only 14½ years old, and Jody was just a few years older. Jody graduated from high school in 1960, and Alice followed in 1963. She was still in high school when they married in 1962.
Jody worked for his father at the Forgy Drug Store in Morgantown until the business was sold. He then transitioned to Ingram Trucking, driving a van over the road. Over the years, he took on various driving jobs but ultimately ended his career back at Ingram, retiring at age 62. Meanwhile, Alice dedicated 40 years to nursing, including 26 years as the Head of Nursing at Lakeview Nursing Home in Morgantown. Jody proudly shared that Alice was so intelligent that she completed a four-year nursing program in just two years at Western.
Their love and dedication blessed them with one son and one daughter, followed by three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Reflecting on their journey, Jody acknowledged that there were hard times, but they made it through—together—for 62 wonderful years.
Congratulations on a long and happy marriage from everyone here at The Banner!
