Members of the Amish community and other individuals are coming together to shoot hoops and raise money for a local school.

On Friday, January 31, the Cub Run Elementary School PTO will host a basketball fundraising event that will include a team organized by Kyle Logsdon facing off against a team from the local Amish community. Doors open at 5:15 p.m. at the Cub Run School gymnasium, with the game beginning at 6 p.m. Admission is free. However, donations are accepted at the door. Concessions will also be available for purchase.

According to Cub Run PTO President Shelby Riggs, all money raised from this event will help to fund a new sound system for the school’s gym. This was requested by several in the community to provide better sound at school events like the annual fall festival. Riggs said it is costly to replace the current sound system, but the PTO is hoping that this upcoming event will help fund the financial capability to do so.

“It would mean a lot to have our community’s support at this event,” Riggs said. “We are not just a school. We really are a family. The Amish community has supported us many times when we have reached out for donations during our annual fall festival and other events to help raise money for our school’s needs, and showing up for this ballgame shows our appreciation to not only our school, but to them as well.”

Riggs said she has enjoyed putting in the time and effort in fundraising so the PTO can continue to help provide students with school-wide trips, special treats, and other rewards.

“Seeing their smiles and hearing their laughs is a priceless thing to see and hear,” Riggs said of the students. “I appreciate the community’s support during these times. Without it, these things wouldn’t be possible…I want community members to know that when they request stuff for our school, we listen. We are trying our best to raise money for it (the new sound system) and hope that because of this event, we can replace it soon. Thank you all for your support in everything you do to help our school.”

Again, the basketball fundraising event will be held on Friday, January 31 at the Cub Run Elementary School gymnasium, located at 170 E Gap Hill Rd, Cub Run. Doors open at 5:15 p.m, and the game will begin at 6 p.m. Admission is free, but donations are accepted at the door. Concessions will also be available for purchase. Everyone is welcome to attend what is sure to be a fun event for the entire community.
