City of Morgantown’s Holiday Hoopla
Santa and helpers.
Story and Pictures by Beverly Bonilla
There was a carnival going on in the middle of Morgantown on Saturday, 11-23-24. The Fourth Annual Holiday Hoopla took place with thousands of people in attendance. The Hoopla was bigger and better this year than the past years. Extra streets had to be blocked off for all the extra activities that were offered. One of the best things was that all the activities were free. The MOGO was being used to transport people back and forth from Morgantown Elementary School and the Eva Hawes Building at Morgantown Park.
Mayor Phelps started off by thanking the Morgantown City Council for putting a lot of the City’s money into something that the community could come out and enjoy. Mayor Phelps stated that City Hall has worked hard to put this huge event together for the people of Morgantown. They started the planning back in February for the Holiday Hoopla. This could not have been done without the help from the staff at City Hall, the Maintenance Department, Police Department and so many more.
There were over 60 vendors and several food trucks. Santa and the crew were there along with the Grinch and Cindy Lou Who. There was a photo booth and several rides for all to enjoy. They had two spots this year shooting out snow for everybody to play in.
The Grinch & Cindy Lou Who.
At 7:00 a drone show was planned to end the night. Last year there were 150 drones but this year there were 250. A beautiful show was put on while everyone sat and watched. You could hear kids and adults trying to figure out what picture the drones would make next. It was truly an amazing show to watch.
This Holiday Hoopla will go down in the record books as a huge success. We can only sit and wait to see what the Mayor and City Hall will come up with for next year to top the 2024 Holiday Hoopla.
