Orville Fayette Roddy

INDIANAPOLIS, IN – Orville Fayette Roddy, 85, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on October 14, 2026.

Born in Summer Shade, Kentucky, on December 17, 1940, to the late Robert and Kate Roddy, Orville was deeply proud of his roots and fondly shared stories of his childhood working alongside his family in the tobacco fields. Seeking new opportunities, he moved to Indianapolis at age 18, beginning his journey with a $1-an-hour job at the 7 Up Bottling Company.

Orville’s greatest dedication was to his family. As a proud, hardworking father, he raised his two beloved daughters, Tonda and Christina, as a single parent. In 1984, he married the love of his life, Dorothy Banks, sharing 32 blissful years of marriage until her passing.

Professionally, Orville devoted many years to Von Duprin, forming cherished friendships and taking great pride in his work before retiring in 2006.

Outside of work, Orville was an avid outdoorsman who found joy in hunting, fishing, camping, and spending time at his second home in Celina, Tennessee. He had a deep appreciation for Westerns and Bluegrass music, especially his favorite song, “Blue Moon of Kentucky” by Bill Monroe. Above all else, Orville cherished his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, constantly showering them with endless love and devotion.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Kate Roddy; his beloved wife, Dorothy Roddy; his sister, Inell Carter; his brother, Taylor Roddy; and his sister, Marilyn Keffaber.

He is survived by his devoted daughters, Tonda Brown and Christina (David) Reese; his brothers, Paul (Brenda) Roddy and J.B. Roddy; his sister, Betty (Ralph) Althoff; his grandchildren, Daniel (Kelly) Reese, Megan (Brian) Lynn, Emily (Kevin) Kendall, and Lena Sutton; and his great-grandchildren, Kenzie Brown, Derek Reese, Lillian Hallam, Lucas Grogan, Kyler Reese, Jaxsyn Kendall, Olivia Lynn, and Harlee Kendall.
