The Metcalfe County Board of Education held a special-called meeting on Monday, Oct. 5th with one item on the agenda: the consideration of the resignation of District 3 Board member Robbie Parnell.

Those in attendance were Superintendent Josh Hurt, board chairman Daniel Glass, and board members Wes Jolly and Kelly Bell. A quorum of three is necessary to conduct business.

A vote to accept the resignation of Robbie Parnell was taken, with Bell stating, “No, I don’t think he needs to.” But Bell then agreed to accept the resignation along with Glass and Jolly.

The approval to accept Parnell’s resignation begins the 60-day time period sequence for a replacement.

Per the Kentucky School Board Association policy 01.3 and KRS 160.190, the board must notify the Secretary of State, County Clerk, Commissioner of Education, and the Director of Board Team Development at KSBA of the vacancy on the board.

Within 30 days, the advertisement for the vacancy must be on the school district’s website and in the newspaper of record for two weeks. The board then reviews the applications and chooses a replacement for the remainder of the term for District 3. A vote must then be taken in an open board meeting, and a notification sent to the above-mentioned offices.
