Mary Jane Oakes

GLASGOW – Mary Jane Oakes, 64, was born and raised in Nokesville, Virginia, and stepped into Heaven on July 24, 2026. She was born January 19, 1962, to the late Veachel H. Emberton and the late Mary F. Hurst of Nokesville, Virginia.

She was best known for her talent with gardening, quilting, and crocheting the many gifts she made. She loved her many babies she cared for over the years. In addition to her love of attending all her grandson’s events.

She is survived by her husband, Jimmy L. Oakes, a marriage of 45 years; two children, Sam Oakes (Chasity) and Jennifer Wyatt (Jimmy); two grandchildren, Easton J. Oakes and Cannon H. Oakes; one brother, Willie Emberton (Traci); two sisters, Debbie Plemmons (Boo), Pamela Pritchett (Chris); and several nieces and nephews. Two sisters-in-law, Debbie Mills (Tom) and Sue Akers (Ryan); one brother-in-law, Timmy Oakes (Shawn); and her best friends, Ann Russell, Helen Browning, Audrey Pedigo, Nicole Bastin, and Bridgett Paull.

In addition to her parents, Mary Jane was preceded in death by two brothers, Danny Emberton (Linda) and Joe Emberton (Vickie); one sister-in-law, Barbara Emberton; and niece, Kimberly Mitchell.

The funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 28, 2026, at Hatcher and Saddler Funeral home with burial in the Happy Valley Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be after 8:30 am Tuesday until time for services.
