Sterling Gilbert

GLASGOW – Sterling Gilbert, 85, Knob Lick, for 56 years and presently of Glasgow, passed away Tuesday, April 28, 2026, surrounded by his family. He was born in Jackson County, KY, on May 10, 1940, to the late Benjamin Harrison Gilbert and Cora Lee May Gilbert. He was also preceded in death by one son, Ricky Marvin Gilbert; eight brothers, Orville Gilbert, Oscar Gilbert, Everett Gilbert, Olen Gilbert, BJ Gilbert, Virgil Gilbert, Theodore Gilbert, and Conley Gilbert; and one sister, Jacqueline Gilbert Cook.

Survivors include his loving wife of almost 64 years, Wilma Ruth Blankenship Gilbert, Glasgow; two children, Susan Simmons, (Randy), Glasgow, and Brian Lee Gilbert, Knob Lick; extended family, Melinda Poynter, Melissa Proffitt, and Paula Huffman, all of Glasgow; four grandchildren, Brooke Smith (Garrett) Glasgow, Brie Gossett (Josey), Cave City, August, Gilbert, and Ember Lee Gilbert, all of Glasgow; three great-grandchildren, Laurel, Livie, and Lilly Sterling; and one sister, Mary Lou, Marcum (Art), London, KY.

Sterling and Wilma moved to their farm at Knob Lick in 1968, where he was a successful farmer/logger, raising tobacco, grains, and some of the best watermelons in the country. He enjoyed attending antique shows with Wilma, picking guitar, fishing, hunting, and most of all spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, as they brought him great joy.

Funeral will be 2:00 pm Sunday, May 3, 2026, at the Hatcher & Saddler Funeral Home with burial in the Gilbert Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm Saturday and after 9:00 am Sunday until time for the funeral.
