Edmonson County Fiscal Court held its regular meeting on February 23 at 4:00pm. All magistrates were present.

Joe Joe Montgomery gave the road report stating the new supply of salt had been delivered. The new road department truck should be finished and delivered in the middle of March. Montgomery asked about signs for the turn arounds the county maintains. The issue is that school busses have to turn around on certain roads , either dead ends or end of the county line. These same turn arounds are used for the snow plows to turn around also. Some residents have been parking  automobiles in these turn arounds preventing them from being used as agreed upon. Also some of the cul-de-sacs are presenting the same issues. Judge Executive Scott Lindsey said they will compile a list of these areas and see about creating a sign to let everyone know not to park there with perhaps a fine being introduced if this problem persists.

Terry Massey the Emergency Director said that  the new Kyrock elementary will be getting the weather mesonet installed and sees this as a great thing for Edmonson County. In the last month Massey reported there were 56 runs, that most of these had been for medical or lift assists.

Jailer Todd Vincent reported 14 county inmates at the present time.

County Clerk Kevin Alexander informed  the Fiscal Court that the countertops are done.

Parks and Rec report was given by Cody Stewart. Stewart said March 14 will be the awards day for little league basketball and that April 4 at 10:00 am will be the annual Easter egg hunt at hwy 70 in Brownsville.

In committee reports Vanessa Ulm from Tourism brought by the new official 2026 Kentucky Visitors guide book. Ulm also asked what can be done about getting Nolin State Park opened back up. She has heard complaints, along with Judge Lindsey about Barren County State Resort park receiving $9.5 million as part of the new Kentucky Home Initiative but Nolin has received nothing to even get it back open. Judge Lindsey said he has asked and been told little information other than it is a FEMA project.

In old business bids for a JAWS of life truck were put back out for a second round.

Resolution EC26-05 Jailer’s Duties and Compensation- outlined duties at the last meeting and approved to increase Jailers pay to $43,000 per year.

The Fiscal Court approved Sabrina Durbin and Darren Smith to fill positions on the Tourism Board. The Court then acknowledged BGWC  January shelter directors report and the Arbor Day Proclamation setting April 3 as Arbor Day.

In updates; Sunfish Roundhill road is only waiting on the ground to dry enough to begin work. The Green River Ferry will be going into the river by Friday and will be working toward getting the ferry signed off for public use in the next week.

KY Senate Bill 7 was mentioned, this bill could place drivers licensing back to the counties. Kevin Alexander cautioned that the process to obtain a drivers license has changed with the Real ID and vision test requirement. This may cause future problems that will need to be worked out.

The next Fiscal Court meeting will be March 9, 2026 at 4:00pm in the upstairs courtroom and is open to the public.
