Edmonson County Emergency Management Director Terry Massey recently completed two major certifications through the Texas A&M Engineering Extension Service (TEEX): Infrastructure Protection and Infrastructure Disaster Management.

Each certification required four intensive courses, ranging from 24 to 36 hours. The training covered pipeline safety, water systems, electrical safety, post‑storm operations, and strategies to reduce damage during major incidents. Massey said the coursework equips him to provide faster, more effective local response in situations where outside agencies may take longer to arrive.

The Infrastructure Protection certification focuses on identifying vulnerabilities within essential systems. Massey said it gives him the tools to look beyond the obvious when assessing risks to resources such as water supply, bridges, ambulance service, and electrical infrastructure.

The Infrastructure Disaster Management certification prepares him to coordinate response efforts from the earliest moments of a crisis—well before federal assistance becomes available. This early action can be critical in protecting lives and restoring essential services.

These advanced trainings strengthen Edmonson County’s readiness for natural disasters, such as tornadoes, as well as potential man‑made threats.

Massey’s initiative underscores the importance of proactive leadership in emergency management and reinforces Edmonson County’s commitment to public safety.
