For the first time in its 25-year history, the Kentucky Association for Gifted Education (KAGE) has selected a Metcalfe County student as its Distinguished Student Award recipient.

Tymber Garrett, a 6th-grade student at Metcalfe County Middle School, was nominated for her outstanding academic achievement, strong leadership skills, and tireless contributions to the community.

“I am both excited and humbled to receive such a prestigious honor,” Tymber Garrett said. “I’ve always enjoyed being involved in my community and school and giving back whenever and wherever possible in Metcalfe County and beyond. I love having an idea that might bring some joy to others. We can all make a difference in the world with one act of kindness at a time. I am very thankful for this opportunity and everything my school, teachers, family, and friends have done to support me along the way.”

Metcalfe County Gifted Coordinator Autumn Shirley said, “Tymber embodies the values of service, stewardship, and integrity that this honor represents. Her passion for helping others, combined with her leadership ability, positions her as a role model for her peers and a bright light in the Commonwealth. I have no doubt she will continue to make a profound impact on those around her.”

Tymber is the 12-year-old daughter of Daniel and Laurel Garrett of Sulphur Well.

She will receive a College Entity Account from the Kentucky Education Savings Plan Trust (KESPT) and a Certificate of Excellence at the annual KAGE Conference in Lexington on Monday, Feb. 23.
