Trojanettes defeat Lady Hornets 68-44

Coach Heidi Coleman and the Metcalfe County High School girls’ basketball team hosted Coach Piper Lindsey and Barren County in a Region 4 matchup last week. The Trojanettes proved the stronger team on this night of quality high school girls’ basketball.

Barren County defeated Metcalfe County 68-44. Shelby Byrd led the Trojanettes’ charge with 22 points. Addy Slagle was the only other Trojanette to reach double figures with 12 points.

Mahalia Burton, Hannah Bragg, and Ann Ashely Atkinson each scored 8 points. Riley Wilson chipped in 3 points, and Karli Hagan added a basket. Burton and Slagle led BCHS with 6 rebounds. Bragg and Atkinson each pulled down 5 boards.

The Trojanettes only shot 13 3-pointers, making 3 from beyond the arc for 23%. The Trojanettes are 23-2 overall as they enter the final week of the season and prepare for the 15th District Tournament. BCHS plays Glasgow on Monday, February 23, at 6 p.m. to open the tourney. Glasgow is the host school this season.

Jozie Allen led MCHS in scoring with 14 points and was the only Lady Hornet to reach double figures. Allen also pulled down 11 rebounds to record another double-double.

Bree Jolly and Lily Blythe each scored 8 points. LeeElla Boles had 7 points. Lilly Billingsley chipped in 3 points. Kylie Brown and Aubrie Compton each scored a basket.

MCHS only made 6 of 21 of their 3-point attempts for 28%.

The Lady Hornets played two overtime district games recently. MCHS beat Monroe County 61-55 and lost to Russell County 49-47. The Lady Hornets are 14-9 as they prepare for the final’s week of the regular season for the 16th District Tournament.
