The windows are rattling, the drifts are five feet high, and the world is freezing over, but in the Brewster house, we call that “perfectly cozy!”
If you’re trapped inside until the spring thaw, here is how Abby and Martha suggest you survive the storm of the century:
Inventory the Pantry
Ensure you have plenty of tea, lace doilies, and—most importantly—enough arsenic, strychnine, and “just a pinch of cyanide” for your elderberry wine. You never know when a weary traveler might seek shelter.
Keep Teddy Occupied
With the ground frozen outside, the “Panama Canal” (the cellar) is officially the only place for a brisk workout. Digging indoors is much warmer than shoveling the driveway.
Utilize the Window Seat
If the guest room gets a bit drafty, the window seat provides excellent… temporary storage for any unexpected visitors who find the cold a bit too much to handle.
The “Peaceful Sleep” Protocol
If the power goes out, remember: a glass of our special wine ensures a guest won’t feel the chill. In fact, they won’t feel anything at all. Ever again.
Check the Guest Book
A snowpocalypse is the best time to catch up on your correspondence and make sure everyone is “accounted for.”
Once the Plows Pass, Come See the Mayhem!
Don’t let the “Snowpocalypse” keep you away for long. Warm your spirits with a dose of dark comedy at Barn Lot Theater. We promise our theater is much warmer than the Brewster cellar.
Arsenic & Old Lace performances are February 19 – March 1, 2026, at Barn Lot Theater, Edmonton, KY. For tickets, you can go online to barnlot.org. Or call the Box Office at 270-432-2276.
