2025: A Year of Growth, Resilience, and Community Pride in Butler County

The year 2025 will be remembered as one of progress, perseverance, and strong community spirit across Butler County. From major investments in healthcare and infrastructure to beloved festivals, public safety initiatives, and record-setting events, the year reflected a county moving forward together.
The year began with positive momentum in January, as Butler County Family Care celebrated the opening of its expanded Morgantown facility. The new location enhanced access to healthcare services for local families and demonstrated continued investment in meeting the growing needs of the community.
In February, Butler County faced one of its most challenging moments as devastating floods impacted Morgantown and surrounding areas. Yet, even in hardship, the strength of the community shone through. Emergency responders, volunteers, churches, civic groups, and neighbors worked side by side to assist those affected, showcasing resilience and compassion that defined the county’s response.
Momentum returned in March with the announcement of plans for a new Morgantown Bank & Trust facility. The project represented confidence in Butler County’s economic future and highlighted the importance of local institutions investing back into the community they serve.

Healthcare growth continued in April, as Kentucky Health & Wellness expanded its Morgantown operations. A ribbon-cutting celebration marked increased access to primary care, mental health services, and telehealth, reinforcing Butler County’s commitment to quality healthcare close to home.
Community revitalization took center stage in May with the opening of the RAFT Pavilion near the Green River. The new gathering space debuted alongside the farmers market and symbolized renewal following flood recovery efforts, providing opportunities for local vendors, artisans, and community events.

A major milestone arrived in June as residents gathered for the groundbreaking of the new Butler County Public Library. The future facility promises expanded educational resources, meeting spaces, and a GED testing site, representing a lasting investment in literacy and lifelong learning.

Summer excitement peaked in July with the return of the Green River Catfish Festival. The beloved tradition drew large crowds for live entertainment, family activities, and the iconic catfish grab. With strong support from the Morgantown-Butler County Chamber of Commerce, the festival once again boosted tourism and celebrated local heritage.

Public safety remained a priority in August, as Butler County residents lined up at fire departments to receive NOAA Weather Alert Radios. The countywide distribution effort ensured families had access to critical weather warnings, strengthening preparedness and protection during severe weather events.
Economic development continued in September with the opening of Revelation Ready Mix on South Main Street in Morgantown. The locally owned business celebrated its grand opening with community leaders and Chamber members, reinforcing the importance of local entrepreneurship and future development.

First responder dedication was highlighted in October, when the Butler County Rescue Squad conducted advanced water rescue and sonar training on the Green River. The all-volunteer organization’s commitment to preparedness reflected the county’s focus on safety and readiness.

Patriotism filled downtown Morgantown in November during the annual Veterans Day Parade. Despite chilly temperatures, strong crowds gathered to honor local veterans, with participation from students, schools, civic groups, and community organizations demonstrating deep respect for service and sacrifice.

The year concluded on a festive high note in December as Morgantown’s Holiday Hoopla welcomed the largest crowd in its history. Snowfall along Main Street, visits with Santa and Mrs. Claus, family activities, and holiday entertainment brought thousands together, providing a joyful close to a year marked by unity and progress.

As 2025 came to an end, Butler County stood as a testament to what can be achieved through collaboration, resilience, and community pride. The milestones, celebrations, and shared challenges of the year laid a strong foundation for continued growth in the year ahead.
