Lois Jean Morgan

BEREA – Lois Jean Ferring Morgan passed away on December 25, 2025. Lois was the widow of her beloved Jim, Lieutenant Colonel James R. Morgan, U.S. Army. Lois and Jim were married from June 10, 1950, until May 14, 2007. Lois was born on July 14, 1929, in Okolona, KY, to Mary Jane Garr Ferring and James Watson Ferring.

 

Lois was a longtime member of Union Church, where she served on various committees and was an Honorary Lifetime Deacon. She was also a member of the Friends of the Madison County Public Library, Berea Women’s Club, The Second Friday Book Club, Kentuckians for the Commonwealth, Berea Arts Council, and Berea Senior Citizens. Lois was a volunteer at Saint Joseph Berea Hospital for 25 years.

 

Lois loved her family, especially her grandchildren, and traveling to Europe, Japan, and the United States. She was also an avid reader.

 

Lois was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and brother, Jimmie Garr Ferring, and her sister, Joanne Dearing.

 

Lois is survived by her three beloved children, Victoria Brashear and her husband Alan of Somerset, KY, Wesley Morgan and his wife Lanette of Midway, KY, and Mark Morgan of Charleston, SC.; eight grandchildren, Matthew Brashear, Michael Brashear, Rachel Morgan, Hannah Morgan, Jessica Mitchell, Jonathan Morgan, Carter Morgan, and Alexander Morgan. One great-grandson, Calvin Mitchell, and several nieces and nephews also survive.

 

Lois’ family would like to give special thanks to the staff of The Neighborhood in Somerset, Somerset Nursing and Rehabilitation, Dr. George Schloemer, Donita Hardy of Berea Clinic, and Hospice of Lake Cumberland.

Funeral services will be at 12:00 Noon, Wednesday, December 31, 2025, at Union Church in Berea, KY, with Rev. Kent Gilbert officiating. Her final earthly resting place will be at Camp Nelson National Cemetery alongside her beloved husband.
