Emogene Ramey Word

SUMMER SHADE – Emogene Ramey Word, 96, passed away Saturday, November 29, 2025, at her residence. A native of Barren County, she was the daughter of the late George W. Ramey and Julia Davis Ramey.

Emogene was a retired Administrative Assistant in the Banking Industry and had worked in local banks until her retirement. She loved anything that had to do with her family; she loved cooking for them, as well as others. She had a great interest in gardening. She was a member of the Refuge Church of Christ.

Survivors include two children, Tina Harlow and her husband Joe, and Tommy Word and his wife Lanell; three grandchildren, Stacey Fergerson, Amanda Webb (John), and Megan Word; one great-grandson, Spencer Toms; one sister-in-law, Margaret Ramey; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Moody Word; and all of her siblings, James Leon Ramey, Rondall Ramey, George Kenneth Ramey, Roscoe Raymond Ramey, Alison Ramey Harris, Francis Ann Ramey Beasley, Robert Hampton Ramey, and Joe Davis Ramey.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 3, 2025, at the Hatcher & Saddler Funeral Home with burial in Happy Valley Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be after 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home. Alternate expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to T.J. Samson Hospice.
